Vm 532: Advanced Convection


General information

Course description: This course includes advanced coverage of convective heat transfer. The aim of the course is to introduce both analytical methods and in-depth physical understanding on fluid flow and energy transfer, heat transfer in channel and external flow, boundary layers, laminar and turbulent convection, forced and free convection, compressible flow theory, convection in high speed flow, conjugate heat transfer, et. Engineering examples, specifically in gas turbine application, will be discussed in the lectures. The students are expected to practice the key methods and convection concepts through a series of tasks and projects using Matlab, classical boundary layer code TEXSTAN, commercial CFD solver ANSYS.
Credit hours: 3 credits
Pre-requisites: Thermodynamics, Heat transfer, fluid mechanics
