The cost of attendance for a given UM school year can be found at the UM Office of the Registrar and Cost to Attend UM websites. Most transfer students are admitted with junior level (upper division) standing and tuition and fees are assessed accordingly. Financial resources to cover educational cost of attendance will include categories shown in the following estimate:

Note:

  • Figures are estimates for 2014-2015 only.
  • The figure for “Living Expenses” includes room, food, books, local transportation, miscellaneous expenses, and mandatory health insurance fees.
  • To estimate costs for Fall 2015 or later, you may wish to use an average increase of 10% per year as a guide.

Certificates of eligibility for visas cannot be issued until Proof of the Ability to Provide Full Financial Support  have been assessed. Note that the CoE requests that students/families or sponsors be able to finance 12 months of living cost.

Accepted Documents for Proof of Funding

  • Financial documents must be original documents and issued by the banking institution. Copied, scanned, emailed, or faxed financial documents will not be accepted.
  • Must contain the exact amount of holdings, and specify the currency and account holder’s full name
  • Savings account bank statement
  • Checking account bank statement
  • Mature bonds are accepted as long as the certificate matures by the end of first term of enrollment (December 31th for Fall term or April 30th for Winter term)
  • Employer letter specifying sponsor’s annual salary
  • Account must be easily acceptable and liquid assets

Unaccepted Documents for Proof of Funding

  • Tax returns
  • Personal or Financial Affidavits of support
  • Sponsor insurance or premiums
  • Stocks, bonds, equity, or security statements
  • Other assets such as investments, property holdings, land, jewelry
  • Passports that expire within 6 months
  • Financial documents issued more than 1 year ago
  • Transfer-In Forms without a Release Date
  • Financial Resources Statement with insufficient guarantee of funding
