The structures and materials group offers graduate instruction and research in structural and multi-body dynamics, computational and experimental mechanics and dynamics,  structural analysis, computational analysis of fracture and fatigue damage, computational modeling and analysis including finite element and meshless methods, parallel computing, and destructive and non-destructive evaluation of materials and structures.  Applications of this research currently include: rotorcraft aero-mechanical analysis and comprehensive simulation, innovation in wind and renewable energy, biomechanics, development of new computational techniques for structural and material analysis, development of new acoustic and infrared tools for non-destructive evaluation, and new damage models for hygro-thermo-mechanical material behaviors of polymeric, metallic, high-performance, composites, and bio-materials.
