Biophotonics Laboratory

Prof. Jigang Wu.

The primary goal of research in the biophotonics lab is to develop novel optical biomedical imaging methods and seek applications in biomedical research and clinical diagnosis. Compared with other biomedical imaging techniques such as x-ray imaging, ultrasound imaging, or magnetic resonance imaging, optical biomedical imaging methods usually have the advantages of being harmless, while providing high resolution and high sensitivity. Current research focus of the lab includes aperture or focus grid based scanning microscopy and interferometer based imaging techniques. We are aiming to overcome some limitations of traditional microscopy and imaging techniques, including field-of-view, resolution, and sensitivity. The advantages of our techniques make them useful for certain applications such as early cancer detection.
