The laboratory for “Thin Films and Thin Film Photovoltaics” at the UM-SJTU Joint Institute focuses on fundamental and applied research on hydrodynamics and heat transfer of droplets and thin liquid films, and materials properties of ensuing coatings and solid films that lead to the fabrication of emerging thin film devices, such as printed electronics and photovoltaics.

To improve the manufacturing process and quality of such devices, we have developed a method based on ultrasonic vibration of the substrate of the wet film of such electronic materials. Ultrasonic excitation results in remarkable improvement in nanostructure, surface uniformity, reproducibility, and controllability of solution-processed devices. For more information, please visit:
